Introduction

Introducing the front cover of my art booklet, ‘Tenement, a new typology?’. I am excited to share that along with the pages in the booklet, there will be a series of blog posts to provide more of an insight into the subject. 

These blog posts will correspond to spreads in my art booklet and will explore different themes associated with the tenements or ‘Mietskaserne’ of Berlin, such as socio-political history, adaptive reuse and blueprints for the future. By combining critical analysis and the creative medium of an art booklet, I hope to showcase my ongoing interest in this housing typology in an accessible way. This project is a culmination of two years of writing about different historical architectural issues within Berlin housing whilst at University, but also taking it a step further and relating this to modern day housing typologies.

I look forward to writing more of these posts and sharing my opinion about this topic which has greatly interested me for a long time!
